Udaari – Introduction

Udaari is an Urdu and Punjabi language social Pakistani television series created and co-produced by Kashf Foundation and Momina Duraid for Hum TV. It emphasised the social and economic marginalisation of residents in Pakistani rural culture, as well as deeply established concerns like as child sexual abuse, gender discrimination, and violence against women. It broadcast from 10 April to 4 September 2016. Farhat Ishtiaq wrote the programme, while Mohammed Ehteshamuddin directed it.

The narrative of Udaari revolves around the households of two Punjabi peasants, Sheedan and Sajida. Sheedan endures harassment since she works in the performing arts and is labelled as a “Marasis,” a disparaging name for musicians. Sajda is a widow and a poor single mother who works as a maid to support her daughter’s upbringing. She decides to marry Imtiaz for her daughter’s sake. As Sheedan’s daughter Ameera accuses Imtiaz of sexually harassing her, the plot twists.

The show takes place in the village of Mirpur as well as metropolitan regions of Punjab.

Udaari garnered great reviews from reviewers and audiences throughout its broadcast; critics praised the delicate subjects inside the story’s arc as well as the entire cast’s performance; it also achieved the highest ratings in 2016 and was regarded as the highest rated TV series of the 2016 season. Udaari earned the most awards at the 5th Hum Awards, including Best Drama Serial – Jury and Best Drama Serial – Popular for Momina Duraid.
