In the first season of Arrow, wealthy playboy Oliver Queen returns to Starling City after spending five years stranded on a mysterious island. Presumed dead, he surprises everyone, including his mother, Thea, and his Laurel Lance, whose sister, Sara, was Oliver’s previous fiancée.
Oliver conceals a terrible secret: his experience on the island changed him into a proficient archer dedicated to fighting injustice. By night, he transforms into the vigilante Green Arrow, pursuing the corrupt authorities that have afflicted the city.
Oliver works from a secret headquarters beneath his family’s house, assisted by his faithful buddy, John Diggle, and his IT expert sister, Thea (who is ignorant of his actions). As Green Arrow, Oliver hunts down criminals while dealing with his personal issues and the reappearance of his presumed-dead father, Malcolm Merlyn.
Throughout the season, Oliver struggles with prior relationships, notably with Laurel, who is reluctant to forgive him for Sara’s death. He also meets Slade Wilson, an island survivor who becomes a dangerous opponent. With each battle, Oliver improves his abilities and emerges as a genuine hero, ready to defend Starling City from the shadows.
