In the small town of Banshee, Pennsylvania, a mysterious ex-convict arrives shortly after being released from prison. He assumes the identity of Lucas Hood, the town’s newly appointed sheriff, who was killed in a bar fight. The real Lucas Hood was expected, so the imposter seizes the opportunity to start a new life under this lawman’s guise.
The man is actually a skilled thief who was just released from a fifteen-year prison sentence. He has come to Banshee for one reason: to reconnect with his former lover and partner in crime, Ana. She was captured during the job that led to his imprisonment and later entered witness protection.
Ana now lives in Banshee as Carrie Hopewell, a wife and mother married to the town’s prosecutor, Gordon Hopewell. She has built a quiet, normal life with two children, completely detached from her criminal past. The arrival of her ex-lover, now Sheriff Hood, shatters this fragile peace and forces her to confront the life she left behind.
As the new sheriff, Hood finds himself in constant conflict with Kai Proctor, the most powerful man in Banshee. Proctor is a wealthy businessman and a self-proclaimed “non-practicing” Amish man who has rejected his upbringing to build a criminal empire. He controls the town through intimidation, corruption, and violence, seeing himself as its true ruler.
Hood’s unconventional and often brutally violent methods of law enforcement quickly become apparent. He assembles a small, loyal team, including Deputy Siobhan Kelly and former boxer Sugar Bates, who runs the bar where Hood lives. Together, they begin to challenge Proctor’s grip on the town, leading to escalating tensions.
The season’s central storyline involves a case from fifteen years prior: the theft of a collection of priceless diamonds. A Ukrainian crime lord named Mr. Rabbit, who is also Ana’s father, believes Hood and Ana stole them. Rabbit sends his ruthless agents to Banshee to recover the gems and exact vengeance, putting everyone in danger.
Throughout the season, Hood navigates his complicated relationship with Carrie, his duty as sheriff, and the threat from Rabbit’s organization.
