While this case provides the procedural backdrop, it is ultimately secondary to the deteriorating relationship between Dexter and Miguel. The Skinner storyline eventually converges with Dexter’s personal crisis in the season’s climax.
The season explores themes of friendship, betrayal, and the possibility of change. Dexter’s journey is one of attempted integration, trying to fit his monstrous side into a human life with a wife, a home, and a friend. It ends with a pivotal moment: Dexter marrying Rita in a sincere ceremony, even as he stands over the grave of Miguel Prado, the friend he was forced to kill.
