Friends is an American television comedy developed by David Crane and Marta Kauffman that aired on NBC for 10 seasons, from September 22, 1994 to May 6, 2004. The show, starring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer, follows six friends in their 20s and early 30s living in Manhattan, New York City. The initial executive producers were Kevin S. Bright, Kauffman, and Crane.
During November and December 1993, Kauffman and Crane began creating Friends under the working title Insomnia Cafe. They submitted the idea to Bright, and they collaborated on a seven-page program outline for NBC.
After multiple screenplay rewrites and title changes, including Six of One and Friends Like Us, the series was eventually titled Friends. The filming took place at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California. Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions and Warner Bros. Television co-produced the series.
Friends – Season 4 – Summary
After Ross breaks up with Bonnie in the season 4 opener, he and Rachel temporarily reunite after Ross pretends to read a long letter Rachel wrote for him. However, Ross continues to argue that the two were on a break when he slept with Chloe, and the couple splits up again. Joey is dating Kathy (Paget Brewster), whom Chandler has a crush on. Kathy and Chandler subsequently kiss, causing tension between Chandler and Joey. Joey only forgave Chandler and let him date Kathy after Chandler spent Thanksgiving in a box as punishment.
Chandler’s relationship with Kathy ends after he realizes she cheated on him during an argument. Phoebe leaves her job as a masseuse after having an affair with one of her clients, and she joins Monica, who has become a chef for hire. They soon establish a catering business together, but Monica is given the post of head chef after leaving a nasty review of Allesandro’s restaurant. Despite first feeling threatened by her coworkers’ rage, Monica soon imposes her supremacy in the kitchen. Phoebe becomes a surrogate for her brother and his wife, Alice (Debra Jo Rupp).
Monica and Rachel are forced to transfer flats with Joey and Chandler after losing a wager in a quiz game, but they are able to switch back by bribing them with Knicks season tickets and a one-minute kiss (off-screen). Rachel is relegated to personal shopping after her boss dies. She meets and subsequently romances a customer called Joshua (Tate Donovan).
Ross begins seeing Emily (Helen Baxendale), an English woman, and the two swiftly become engaged. Rachel is unable to cope and quickly proposes to Joshua that they marry, which he declines. In the season finale, the party travels to London for Ross and Emily’s wedding, with the exception of a heavily pregnant Phoebe and Rachel.
Chandler and Monica sleep together, while Rachel, realizing she is still in love with Ross, hurries to London to cancel Ross and Emily’s wedding, but reconsiders when she finds them happy together. Ross accidently mentions Rachel’s name at the altar while performing his vows, surprising both his wife and the guests.
