Friends is an American television comedy developed by David Crane and Marta Kauffman that aired on NBC for 10 seasons, from September 22, 1994 to May 6, 2004. The show, starring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer, follows six friends in their 20s and early 30s living in Manhattan, New York City. The initial executive producers were Kevin S. Bright, Kauffman, and Crane.
During November and December 1993, Kauffman and Crane began creating Friends under the working title Insomnia Cafe. They submitted the idea to Bright, and they collaborated on a seven-page program outline for NBC.
After multiple screenplay rewrites and title changes, including Six of One and Friends Like Us, the series was eventually titled Friends. The filming took place at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California. Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions and Warner Bros. Television co-produced the series.
Friends – Season 6 – Summary
In the season 6 opener, Ross and Rachel’s marriage is revealed to be a drunken mistake that neither recalls until the other friends bring it up. Ross assures Rachel that he would get them an annulment, but then does nothing since he cannot bear having three failed marriages.
By the time Rachel realizes they are still married, an annulment is difficult owing to their past, so they are forced to divorce. Despite multiple hints that they should marry, Monica and Chandler decide to live together, causing Rachel to move in with Phoebe. Joey accepts a new roommate, Janine (Elle Macpherson).
They develop affections for one other and briefly date before Janine criticizes Monica and Chandler, thereby terminating the relationship. After Janine leaves, Joey struggles to pay his expenses, so he finds a job at Central Perk. He quickly obtains a position on the cable TV series Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E., co-starring with a crime-fighting robot.
Ross lands a teaching position at New York University. He dates Elizabeth (Alexandra Holden), a student, even though it is against university regulations. Elizabeth’s father, Paul (Bruce Willis), disapproves of Ross but falls for Rachel, and the two begin dating.
Both relationships quickly end: Elizabeth is too immature for Ross, and Paul, who was previously reticent, opens out emotionally, which Rachel cannot manage. When Phoebe and Rachel’s apartment catches fire, Rachel moves in with Joey, while Phoebe remains with Chandler and Monica, though they subsequently switch.
Monica jokes about putting her name on a reservation list at a museum with a two-year wedding wait time. Chandler panics when he intercepts a phone call from the museum regarding a cancellation; nevertheless, Chandler has been planning to propose while claiming he has no desire to marry.
Chandler’s planned proposal is derailed when Monica’s ex-boyfriend Richard Burke unexpectedly shows up at a posh restaurant. Richard subsequently tells Monica that he wants to marry her and have children. Monica is unhappy with Chandler because she believes his ploy about not wanting to marry.
Chandler feels Monica has abandoned him until he returns home and discovers their apartment decked with candles and her prepared to propose to him. When she feels too emotional to continue, Chandler makes a proposal, which she accepts.
