Friends is an American television comedy developed by David Crane and Marta Kauffman that aired on NBC for 10 seasons, from September 22, 1994 to May 6, 2004. The show, starring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer, follows six friends in their 20s and early 30s living in Manhattan, New York City. The initial executive producers were Kevin S. Bright, Kauffman, and Crane.
During November and December 1993, Kauffman and Crane began creating Friends under the working title Insomnia Cafe. They submitted the idea to Bright, and they collaborated on a seven-page program outline for NBC.
After multiple screenplay rewrites and title changes, including Six of One and Friends Like Us, the series was eventually titled Friends. The filming took place at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California. Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions and Warner Bros. Television co-produced the series.
Friends – Season 8 – Summary
Season 8 opens with Monica and Chandler’s wedding celebration. Phoebe and Monica discover Rachel’s pregnancy and encourage her to have another test to confirm it. Phoebe initially states the test is negative, disappointing Rachel greatly, but then admits it is positive, claiming Rachel now understands how she truly feels about having a kid.
Ross is finally revealed to be the father, and the season focuses on Rachel’s pregnancy. Rachel and Ross resolve to be co-parents without restarting their love connection; Ross begins dating Mona (Bonnie Somerville), Monica’s Allesandro coworker.
Joey takes Rachel out to calm her anxieties about parenting and discovers he has love feelings for her. While repressing his emotions, he pushes Rachel to stay at Ross’s apartment so that he may be engaged in her pregnancy. Mona is unable to cope with the arrangement and ends her relationship with Ross. Joey informs Ross of his affections for Rachel.
Ross is first outraged, but eventually grants his blessing. Joey tells Rachel that he loves her, but she understands she does not feel the same way, so they stay friends. When Rachel goes into labor, Ross’ mother offers him a family heirloom ring and pushes him to propose to her. Ross hesitates and slips the ring into his jacket, which he subsequently leaves in Rachel’s room.
After Monica joked about having children, she and Chandler decide to establish a family while remaining in the hospital. Rachel delivers baby Emma after a protracted labor in which several other expecting moms, including Janice, are escorted to the delivery room.
Janice subsequently tells her that Ross may not always be there for her and the baby, which makes her sad and worried. When Joey consoles Rachel, the ring falls from Ross’ jacket to the ground. Joey kneels to pick it up, and Rachel, assuming he is proposing, says yes on the spot. Meanwhile, Ross plans to ask Rachel whether she wishes to restart their relationship.
