Friends is an American television comedy developed by David Crane and Marta Kauffman that aired on NBC for 10 seasons, from September 22, 1994 to May 6, 2004. The show, starring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer, follows six friends in their 20s and early 30s living in Manhattan, New York City. The initial executive producers were Kevin S. Bright, Kauffman, and Crane.
During November and December 1993, Kauffman and Crane began creating Friends under the working title Insomnia Cafe. They submitted the idea to Bright, and they collaborated on a seven-page program outline for NBC.
After multiple screenplay rewrites and title changes, including Six of One and Friends Like Us, the series was eventually titled Friends. The filming took place at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California. Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions and Warner Bros. Television co-produced the series.
Friends – Season 9 – Summary
Season nine opens with Ross and Rachel cohabitating with their daughter Emma, after Joey and Rachel resolve the proposal misunderstanding. Monica and Chandler have challenges as they attempt for a baby: Chandler accidentally accepts to a work transfer to Tulsa at the same time Monica is given a head chef position at a new restaurant, Javu, which requires Chandler to commute back and forth.
Chandler leaves Monica after Christmas to pursue a new profession in advertising, first as an unpaid intern at an ad firm and eventually getting recruited as a junior copywriter. Monica and Chandler find that they are physically unable to conceive and, after evaluating many choices, decide to adopt.
Phoebe begins seeing Mike Hannigan (Paul Rudd) for the most of the season, until Mike declares that he never wants to marry again. Phoebe dates her ex-boyfriend from season one, David (Hank Azaria), who intends to propose to her, but Mike proposes first. Phoebe rejects both propositions but returns to Mike, merely seeking confirmation that they have a future together.
Rachel, convinced that her coworker Gavin (Dermot Mulroney) is attempting to steal her job while she is on maternity leave, returns to Ralph Lauren early. She finds out at her birthday celebration that Gavin has affection for her. They kiss but do not pursue a relationship because of her past with Ross.
Meanwhile, after seeing the kiss, Ross retaliates by dating other women. Rachel and Emma move in with Joey after concluding their living situation with Ross is too strange. Rachel develops a crush on him, but is disappointed when he begins dating Charlie (Aisha Tyler), a new palaeontology professor to whom Ross is drawn.
In the conclusion, the gang flies to Barbados to attend Ross’ keynote speech at a conference. Joey and Charlie part up after discovering they have nothing in common. Joey later learns about Rachel’s emotions for him, but claims they can’t pursue them due of Ross. However, after watching Ross and Charlie kiss, he goes to Rachel’s hotel room, and the episode concludes with them kissing.
