Narcos Season 3 shifts focus from Pablo Escobar to the Cali Cartel, the more disciplined and sophisticated drug empire that rose after Medellín’s fall. The season follows the DEA and Colombian authorities as they target the cartel’s leaders, known as the “Cali Godfathers.” Gilberto Rodríguez Orejuela, the strategic mastermind, and his impulsive brother Miguel lead the organization, while Pacho Herrera handles international connections and Chepe Santacruz oversees the New York operations.
The Cali Cartel operates differently from Escobar’s violent methods, preferring bribery and political influence. However, their ambition to go legitimate before a looming surrender deadline creates tension within the group. Agent Javier Peña, now working privately, assists the DEA’s new lead agent, Chris Feistl, and his partner Daniel Van Ness, in dismantling the cartel.
Internal struggles and betrayals weaken the Cali Cartel. David Rodríguez, Gilberto’s reckless son, causes problems, while Jorge Salcedo, the cartel’s head of security, secretly cooperates with the DEA. As law enforcement closes in, the cartel’s leaders are captured one by one, leading to dramatic confrontations. The season ends with the cartel’s downfall, but the drug trade persists, hinting at the endless cycle of the war on drugs.
