Their powerful and supportive mentor is Jacqueline Carlyle, the magazine’s inspiring editor-in-chief, who challenges and guides them.

Jane’s professional journey is jumpstarted when she pitches a deeply personal article about her health, specifically a preventative double mastectomy due to a BRCA gene mutation. This storyline empowers her as a journalist but also creates tension with her boyfriend, Ryan, who struggles with her decision. Her pursuit of meaningful stories often leads her into ethical dilemmas, teaching her about the real-world impact of her words.

Kat quickly establishes herself as a fearless and innovative force at Scarlet, but her life is complicated when she falls for Adena, a Muslim lesbian photographer. Their passionate but challenging relationship forces Kat to explore her sexuality publicly and navigate the complexities of love, art, and cultural differences, all while managing her high-pressure job.

Sutton, meanwhile, grapples with her dream of working in the fashion department while hiding a secret office romance with Richard, a board member and influential executive. She must balance her professional aspirations with her feelings, all while managing the financial and emotional strains of life in the city on an assistant’s salary.

Throughout the season, the trio leans on their unbreakable friendship to overcome obstacles both in and out of the office. They tackle modern issues like feminism, identity, love, and ambition, all under the roof of a publication that aims to empower women.
