The Nurse begins in 2012 in Nykbing Falster, Denmark. Arne, an old gentleman, faints at home and is taken to the Nykbing Falster emergency ward. Arne is gradually improving and will be discharged the following day.

However, on the night before his discharge, he is given a fatal dose of a medicine he is not supposed to take, and as a result, he dies of heart failure. Arne’s brother Kenny has been notified of his death.

Kenny learns that his brother committed suicide after injecting himself with a large dose of morphine and diazepam. He is also informed that Arne was using an antidepressant.

The Nurse opens on a depressing note, and it is simple to deduce what the play is about. Pernille Kurzmann is a young single mother who relocated to this city after completing her nursing programme to work in the emergency department of Nykbing Falster Hospital.

As her job begins, she is assigned to night shifts, which means she will be working with celebrity nurse Christina Aistrup Hansen. She is recognised for saving many lives in the emergency room, and Pernille considers herself fortunate to be working with such an experienced and well-liked nurse. Pernille and Christina become excellent friends and enjoy working together. Their group is known as the “dream team.”
