The second season continues the story of Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter. He finally reunites with Princess Ciri at the end of the first season. The season begins with him taking her to the safest place he knows, the ancient fortress of Kaer Morhen, home of the Witchers.
At Kaer Morhen, Geralt begins training Ciri to defend herself. They discover her powers are vast and mysterious, linked to her Elder Blood. Her strange magic and terrifying nightmares attract dangerous forces. This includes a new monster, a mutated creature called a Leshy, which is created from a deceased Witcher, revealing a dark secret about the Witcher mutations.
Yennefer of Vengerberg is believed to have died at the Battle of Sodden. In reality, she survived but lost her magical chaos. Captured by the elves, she strikes a desperate bargain with their leader, Francesca. Yennefer agrees to help the elves recover a stolen baby, their prophesied heir, in exchange for having her magic restored.
The political landscape grows more tense. The Northern kingdoms, led by Redania’s spymaster Dijkstra and the mage Vilgefortz, suspect Nilfgaard’s emperor, Emhyr var Emreis, is still a threat. They plot to use Ciri’s claim to the throne of Cintra for their own ends. Meanwhile, the elves, desperate for a homeland, carry out a horrific act, slaughtering the humans in the city of Rinde.
Yennefer’s path leads her to Ciri. She sees the girl as the key to regaining her power. She betrays Geralt and attempts to hand Ciri over to the elf Francesca. This plan is a trap set by Francesca and the mysterious Deathless Mother, a demonic entity Ciri has been communicating with in her dreams. The demon’s true name is Voleth Meir, and it seeks to use Ciri’s power to return to the world.
Geralt and the other Witchers race to stop the ritual at the monolith, an ancient elven structure. In the ensuing confrontation, Voleth Meir possesses Ciri. The demon uses Ciri’s body to slaughter many of the elves. Geralt is forced to fight the possessed Ciri, reaching her through love and reminding her of their connection. This breaks the demon’s hold, and Voleth Meir is banished.
In the aftermath, trust is shattered. Yennefer is forgiven but the bond is strained. Ciri, now more aware of her uncontrollable power, chooses to stay and train with Geralt. The season ends with a major revelation about Emperor Emhyr var Emreis of Nilfgaard. He removes a disguise, revealing himself to be Duny, Ciri’s father, who was believed dead. His ultimate goal is to find and reclaim his daughter.
